We are thrilled to announce the official release of Galacean Engine 1.6! This version brings a wealth of major updates:

  • AI Image-to-Model Upgrade: Generate high-quality PBR models with metallic-roughness maps from a single image!
  • New Ambient Occlusion: Adds more realistic light and shadow depth to your scenes.
  • PBR Material Upgrade: Unifies the metallic and specular workflows, supporting more flexible blending of metallic and non-metallic surfaces.
  • Physics Enhancements: Supports Sweep / Overlap detection for identifying scanned or overlapping objects.
  • GUI Upgrade: Supports adaptive layout and custom materials, making it easy to center, stretch, and more for UI elements.
  • New Community Features & Online Project Publishing: Making creation and sharing more convenient.

AI Image-to-Model Upgrade

The Image-to-Model feature receives a major boost in material expressiveness! Generated models now include PBR materials with metallic and roughness maps, allowing for fine distinction between metallic and non-metallic areas of an object, as well as detailed surface roughness variation. This ensures generated models present ultra-realistic PBR effects under any lighting conditions.

Rendering Upgrades

New Ambient Occlusion

In this update, we introduce Ambient Occlusion, which effectively enhances shadow depth in crevices and contact points, giving scenes stronger three-dimensionality in lighting. It supports multiple quality levels, with adjustable intensity and radius.

PBR Material Upgrade

The material system receives significant enhancements in this version.

  • The metallic workflow and specular workflow are now unified, supporting more powerful custom specular effects.
  • Furthermore, the lighting models BRDF and BTDF have been merged into a BSDF model, enabling a more unified representation of optical materials.

New Physics Sweep and Overlap Detection

  • New Physics Sweep Detection: Supports shapes like boxes, spheres, and capsules performing path sweeps along a specified direction, useful for pre-detection. Developers can easily implement features like character movement prediction and bullet trajectory scanning.
  • New Physics Overlap Detection: Quickly retrieves all colliders within a specified area. Supports spatial queries with box, sphere, and capsule shapes, making features like area-of-effect damage calculation and zone detection simpler and more efficient to implement.

New GUI Relative Layout

Automatically adapts to parent container size changes based on different adaptation models, simplifying UI adaptation for various device screen sizes. Additionally, the editor's Image component now supports custom materials.

Sharing & Publishing

New Community

Community features will be a key focus for us in the near future. In the 1.6 milestone, we have launched a beta version of the community functionality. You can now publish your outstanding projects to the Galacean Community to share and exchange ideas with all creators. Users can also easily learn and create based on community projects.

New Online Project Publishing

You can now publish your projects directly! Version 1.6 introduces project publishing functionality. You can directly publish your 3D projects to the internet, and the system will automatically generate a shareable link, allowing your creative work to reach a wider audience easily.

New QR Code Preview for Projects

The 1.6 milestone supports QR code scanning in preview mode. Simply scan the QR code to view your project's effect on mobile devices, providing a smoother development experience.

Other Features

  • Optimized Shader Compilation Time: Runtime overhead reduced by approximately 66%. Starting from the next milestone, the engine will fully utilize a more powerful Shader framework. You can now visit the official website to learn the new material tutorials.
  • Color Picker Adds Dual Color Spaces: The color picker supports dual color space modes, facilitating color space conversion and copying.
  • New Scene Loading Progress: Real-time loading progress can be obtained via a progress callback, allowing projects to customize better loading experiences.
